Frugal Friday : Picture magnet

Remember when I made the button magnets earlier in the week? Well, there was something that I thought I could reuse...Do you remember what it was?! Here is the picture from Monday:

The metal circle the magnets came on!
I still had this on the fridge..Our Christmas card photo from December...
So I used the metal circle and traced it around us!
cut it out...and glued it to the circle.
Then I put one of the magnets on the back....
and now have a pretty photo magnet on the fridge! (without the Christmas saying!)

Easy!! I love reusing materials!

Thursday's Tips and Tricks : Softening Secret

When you're ready to bake, waiting for cold butter to soften can seem to take forever. Here's how to hurry the process along: Over a mixing bowl, shred the amount of butter you need on a grater. The little pieces will soften faster than a solid stick. In no time, the butter will be bake-worthy.

I will definitely be doing this...I always seem to be waiting for butter to soften!!! Thanks Martha!

Frugal Friday : More Tin Cans

Tin cans are a great thing to reuse. We don't eat thing that come in a lot of cans...but we eat a fair bit of soup in the winter. ( I really have to start making my own! I have before and it is soooo good..and easy...) Anyway,  for this you need tin cans and some paper. (I used some textured wallpaper)
You just wrap the paper along the can...
and glue....
and then you have a pretty vase for some flowers.. or a plant

They would be pretty painted too!
What have you been reusing lately?

Try it Tuesday : Sweet and Salty Roasted Chickpeas!

I found this recipe on Pinterest! I had to try it...they turned out pretty good but they didn't all crisp up....before they got a little dark...maybe that is my oven being too hot?! I am definitely going to try this again..maybe at a lower temperature!!

Sweet and Salty Roasted Chickpeas
  • 1 can (14 oz) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon or your spice(s) of choice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  1. Place chickpeas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Bake at 450 F for 30 minutes. (You didn't miss anything here.  You don't oil or season them until after they are done.  In fact, for an extra healthy treat, try them when they get out of the oven before even adding the oil.  They are enjoyable all on their own.)
  3. Transfer chickpeas to a bowl and mix thoroughly with the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Enjoy hot, or bring to room temperature and store in an air-tight container.  Like popped corn, the chickpeas are never as good the next day.  However, they are still quite enjoyable 3-4 days after making them.

Frugal Friday : Cardboard Bracelet

I originally saw this idea on pinterest with a paper towel roll. I wondered how it would be sturdy enough to be a bracelet so I passed on saving it to my boards. One day at school I was working in a classroom and needed some tape. The teacher handed me a roll but it was pretty close to empty. I used what was left and proceeded to put the empty roll in my pocket...without the teacher seeing of course...I didn't want her to think I was crazy! Anyway, I made a cute bracelet...and it cost zero dollars (I had the yarn on hand already)

I started by hot gluing the beginning of the yarn on the empty roll
....and just wrapped it all around...
and glued the end of the yarn to the inside of the bracelet.
 What do you think?!
do you know how hard it is to take a picture of a bracelet on yourself? hahahah
I love free, pretty things!!

Try it Tuesday : Parmesan Broccoli

I found this recipe on Pinterest...where else?! I think it will become a regular over here...it was soooo delish! And so easy to make!

Parmesan Broccoli

Preheat a baking sheet on the lower rack in a 450 oven. Blanch 1 head chopped broccoli in boiling water with salt and sliced garlic for 1 minute; drain. Toss with a splash of olive oil, a handful each of breadcrumbs and parmesan, salt and pepper. Place on the hot baking sheet and top with more cheese and breadcrumbs; roast until golden, 15 minutes.

The recipe originally came from food network.com. I am so glad Pinterest exists! Otherwise I would probably  never come across this! Try it! You can thank me later!

Make it Monday : Hair Combs

This is an easy craft and one that you can customize to your wardrobe!
I found the tutorial at P.S. I made this..

Here is what you need:
embroidery floss, fabric, and hair combs (I tried ribbon as well, but it didn't work so well!)
I got 6 hair combs for a dollar at the dollar store
You just tie your fabric or floss onto the comb and wrap it around the entire thing.
once you get to the end, just tie a knot and cut off the excess.
I liked the look of the embroidery floss the best
Here are  my finished products:
And here is my beautiful sister as my hair model.

Cute and easy!
